Mrs Nova Darlene Whisenhunt Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Nova Darlene Cecil was born on August 6, 1932, to Charley and Luretta Cecil. She grew up with 5 brothers and sisters on a farm 10 miles outside of St. Francis, KS. At the age of 16 years old the family moved from the farm into town. While visiting with friends, a handsome young man rode up on a horse. She decided he was going to be hers. His name was Hubert G. Whisenhunt, and they were married a year later. Hubert had several jobs that moved them from Kansas to Colorado and California, where they finally settled in Victorville. She had lived in Victorville for 60 years! She loved everything about living in the desert, especially the heat. Snakes, however, she could do without. Nova was a devoted wife and mother to their 3 children. She lost Hubert to cancer in in 1970 and continued to be a devoted mother. When the last child was out of high school she went to school herself. After graduating she landed a position with the American Red Cross as the Program's Director for the Inland Empire Chapter. She continued on when the High Desert Chapter was formed. She retired after approximately 20 years. After her retirement, she was able to spend alternate years celebrating the holidays with her daughters and their families. She loved serving the Lord, and was an example of Godly living to everyone she met. She passed from this life on April 15, 2016, with her daughters at her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Whisenhunt; her sons, Daniel and Joseph Whisenhunt ; and 4 siblings. She leaves behind her daughter Laura ( Bob) Hoffman of Alaska; daughter Janet (Jim) McDonald of Utah; grandchildren Kayla, Raychel and Daniel Hoffman, Colt Whisenhunt and Jacob McDonald; great granddaughter Rhylee Hoffman; sister Juanita Kirkendall; brother Galen Cline; and her faithful feline companion of 13 years, Little Sister. Services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Victor Valley Church of Christ, 13150 Sycamore Street, Victorville. Graveside services will be on Monday, May 2, 2016, 10:00 AM at Victor Valley Memorial Park, 15609 11th Street, Victorville, CA 92395
